Celebrity hangout up for sale

12 April 2012

A Mayfair nightspot and former hangout of stars including Sienna Miller, Jude Law and rapper Jay-Z is up for sale.

Administrators are looking for a buyer for 17 Berkeley Street and Automat, the New York-style brasserie opened by flamboyant Argentinian restaurateur Carlos Almada in Dover Street in 2005.

Automat is still open but 17 Berkeley Street has closed. The venue became a favourite of wealthy bankers and private equity firms in the area. A third vacant site is also up for sale.

Josh Leon, handling the sale for agents Davis Coffer Lyons, expects the leaseholds to be snapped up quickly.

He added: "Licensed real estate of this nature anywhere in Westminster has always been incredibly rare."
