A proposal for a mass roll-out of the chickenpox vaccine for children is being examined by the Government.

The Department of Health will look at whether a vaccine is necessary and if it could be combined with the MMR shot and given to children in a four-in-one jab.

The chickenpox vaccine is routine in the US but here experts have said more work needs to be done to see if it would be beneficial.

There is concern vaccinations against the disease could cause millions more cases of shingles in adults.
