Coma vigil for mugged cyclist, 25

13 April 2012

A cyclist is still in a coma four days after being knocked to the ground by moped muggers.

Three suspects on two scooters swarmed around Jane Gauntlett, as she rode on purple Dawes mountain in Paddington Green, London at midday on Saturday.

They ripped the lock and basket off the back of her bike, throwing her to the ground. As the 25-year-old student from Camden lay in the road unconscious, they fled with her handbag.

Her family are at her bedside and she remains in a critical condition in intensive care.

Detectives are linking the mugging to the attempted robbery of a 52-year-old businessman in Marylebone at 3.30pm on Saturday.

It again involved three suspects on two mopeds who tried to snatch the man's briefcase but fled when he fought back.

Police yesterday arrested a 17-year-old. He remains in custody together with four others aged 16, 17, 18 and 22.
