A new six-lane Thames bridge would create an "inner London M25" protesters claim.

The Mayor's Transport for London department plan for a £385million Thames Gateway bridge would link Beckton on the north side of the river with Thamesmead on the south.

But in a report published today, pressure group Transport 2000 and the London Assembly Green group said the scheme would put an extra 6,000 vehicles an hour onto east London roads.
