Council worker suspended after outbreak

Council workers responsible for maintaining an air-conditioning plant at the centre of the Legionnaires' disease outbreak which has killed one and infected at least 47 people are to be questioned by police.

The technical manager for Barrow Council has been suspended on full pay "to minimise contact with other officers". He supervised the air conditioning of the council-run arts centre Forum 28. The water treatment unit, which was around 30 years old and due to be replaced in three years, was reportedly left unrepaired for a month.
