An award-winning Australian actor who co-starred in a Crocodile Dundee movie and appeared alongside Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman has been found dead in a park.

The body of David Ngoombujarra, 44, was discovered in Fremantle, Western Australia, on Sunday.

The actor, who appeared with Jackman and Kidman in Australia and alongside Paul Hogan in the third Crocodile Dundee movie, won an Australian Film Institute award three times.

Jackman paid tribute to his friend on Twitter, saying: "So saddened to hear about the passing of David Ngoombujarra Starr. An extraordinary man, actor and friend. His laugh, warmth and humanity will live on with all who knew him."

Australia director Baz Luhrmann spoke of the actor's "extraordinary spirit, life force and creativity". Ngoombujarra won his three awards for the movies Blackfellas, Black and White, and The Circuit.

"He just had that enormous power, that on-screen presence; you just couldn't take your eyes off him," said The Circuit's producer Ross Hutchens.
He was born in the remote Western Australian town of Meekatharra in 1967 and was raised by a white family in Perth as David Bernard Starr.

The results of a toxicology report are yet to be released but police say his death is not suspicious.
