TV presenter Davina McCall was one of hundreds of motorists left trapped in their vehicles by the snow.

The 42-year-old was stranded for 10 hours in Kent on her way home and had to sleep in her car.

She spent her waking time posting messages on her Twitter site while waiting for her husband and police to rescue her, and sent messages to fellow presenter Phillip Schofield.

At one point she phoned BBC Radio 5 and said: "We got wedged in a whole series of cars and it was pelting down with snow.

"I did call the police after a couple of hours and they came pretty quickly."

Her ordeal started at around 10pm on the A21 near Tunbridge Wells. Soon afterwards she tweeted: "This is mad! I'm stranded in the car."

McCall then added: "Never have I regretted wearing a leather jacket more ... going to call the police."

And "We can't move without grit!!! Pls send out grit!!!" She also invited a couple who were walking to come and sit in her car.

She was helped by a policeman who she named as Pc Stevens, and posted a photo of him in gratitude. Before he arrived she said: "Police jolly helpful ... but they are SNOWED under!"

Her husband Matthew Robertson eventually reached her at 8am, about five miles short of their home.

McCall found time to advise other motorists: "Everyone. If it's really snowing don't leave the house!!! Stay home."
