Dead baby left by hospital desk for two days

12 April 2012

A stillborn baby was left in a bodybag by a hospital desk for almost two days after porters forgot to move the dead infant to a mortuary.

The birth of baby Ethan was induced at Leicester Royal Infirmary two days after mother Kerry Bailey was told he had died. Three days later the hospital told Miss Bailey, 26, and her partner, Steve Linnett, 29, that Ethan's body had been left next to a porter's desk for 36 hours after his birth on 25 May. An inquiry later blamed human error and a failure to follow procedure.

Mr Linnett said: "It's horrendous. People take more care of their shopping than they did with our beloved son."
