Diana's name goes on baby clothes

Princess Diana's name and family crest are to be used to sell a range of baby and maternity clothes to raise money for charity.

The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund has given permission to Japanese manufacturer Aprica to produce a range of goods including christening gowns and pushchairs to be marketed in the Far East.

The products will be launched in less than two weeks in a controversial move by the charity's trustees, who days ago lost a legal battle against a US firm marketing Diana dolls and commemorative plates.

A judge in America ruled that the owners of Franklin Mint could bring a ? 16 million counter-action against the charity for malicious prosecution.

A spokeswoman for the trust has hit back at allegations that it was "cheapening" Diana's legacy.

"The fund tries to bring in new money for the charities it supports by licensing suitable products - that's why we launched the legal case against Franklin Mint in the first place," she said.
