Doherty man's fall no accident say family

13 April 2012

The distraught family of an actor who fell to his death after a row with Pete Doherty gave a clear hint yesterday that they believe he was murdered.

Mark Blanco suffered fatal head injuries plunging from a second-floor balcony after being told to leave a house party following an altercation with the drug-addict singer.

Police have said they do not believe a 'third party' was involved in the fall.

But his family said in a statement: "We absolutely do not believe that Mark committed suicide or that his death was a simple accident."

With the family still wanting answers to a string of questions surrounding the Cambridge graduate's death, 27-year-old Doherty yesterday gave detectives a formal witness statement about last Saturday night.

Police believe 30-year-old Mr Blanco either committed suicide, fell accidentally from the balcony, or died as a result of a prank.

There are reports that he was bullied at the party, held at the flat of Doherty's literary agent Paul Roundhill, 51, in Whitechapel, East London.

At least one neighbour described hearing a 'struggle' and screams before Mr Blanco fell 30ft from the stairwell balcony outside the flat.

Mr Blanco is said to have pinned Doherty to the wall in their altercation. The singer left the party after a 999 call had been made, walking past the dying Mr Blanco on his way.
