'Drunken student stabbed flatmate 80 times'

13 April 2012

A student stabbed his flatmate 80 times in a drunken rage after a university party, the Old Bailey was told today.

Saif Mahmood, 21, died almost immediately from one of the first wounds which penetrated his heart.

His body was found in the kitchen of the flat he shared with Adam Davies, 20, near the grounds of Brunel University, west London.

Michael Worsley QC, prosecuting, said both men had been drinking and had been drunk when they left a party in a halls of residence, a few hours before.

He said it was a "frenzied attack" which had been committed in a "drunken rage".

Mr Mahmood, who had been a student at the university until shortly before his death, had been stabbed all over his body with two knives.

"He had been savagely stabbed some 80 times," said Mr Worsley.

Student Davies, of Sergeants Close, Uxbridge, west London, denies murdering his flatmate in January this year.

Mr Worsley said: "They were friends. From time to time they used to argue and get into heated arguments."

The prosecutor said neighbours were woken in the early hours of the morning by noise coming from the flat above.

Davies then rang their doorbell and asked for help, saying he had been injured.

He allegedly told one of them that he had stabbed and killed his friend.

But later, he told police that he was held at knifepoint while his friend was killed after two masked men came to the flat.
