Former Dynasty star Heather Locklear is in hospital after downing a cocktail of drink and prescription drugs

The actress, 50, was said to have been distraught over the break-up of her relationship with Melrose Place co-star Jack Wagner, 52, in November.

Her older sister Colleen reportedly called emergency crews to the star's Los Angeles home at 2.30pm yesterday after fearing she was in danger.

Paramedics were said to have remained at Locklear's home in the suburb of Westwood for nearly an hour before taking her to hospital.

Later in the day Ava, her 14-year-old daughter with ex-husband and Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, tweeted: "Well this sucks."

A source said: "Colleen was worried about Heather's state of mind and afraid she was going to harm herself because of her drinking mixed with medication. Heather is upset over her relationship with Jack. It's on and off and it has upset her lately."

The actress, who played Sammy Jo Carrington in Dynasty, was seen laughing and joking with friends - including Hollywood star Woody Harrelson - at an LA Lakers basketball game in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

Locklear has had problems with medication in the past. She checked into a rehab clinic to be treated for anxiety and depression in June 2008. It followed a bizarre incident in which her doctor reportedly called for help, fearing she was going to commit suicide - a claim that was denied by her representatives.

Three months later she was arrested for driving under the influence of prescription drugs. The charges were later dismissed when she pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

A spokeswoman for Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, California, confirmed that the actress was admitted and was being kept overnight for observation. She was said to be conscious, stable and resting comfortably.
