Eurostar trains crippled by power failure

Eurostar: service crippled by HS1 power failure
12 April 2012

Eurostar services were crippled today following a major power failure on its high-speed line.

Domestic Southeastern commuter services into St Pancras International were also halted.

Although it was a UK power failure, trains from Paris, Brussels and beyond heading into London were delayed. Eurostar and domestic services were being held at stations.

Long queues formed at St Pancras International with Eurostar warning travellers shortly before lunchtime of two-hour delays.

Friday is the busiest day of the week for Eurostar with many passengers heading to Paris and Disneyland.

Eurostar advised passengers to check in as normal but anyone having to cancel their trip could exchange tickets for another day.

A Eurostar spokesman said: "We are currently anticipate delays of up to two hours to our services." An HS1 spokesman added: "We are working as fast as we can to find the problem."
