Faces of couple in new year double tragedy

"Murder and suicide": Jiri Stuchlik and his girlfriend Jitka Nahodilova
12 April 2012

This is the Czech man police believe stabbed his girlfriend to death in north London before throwing himself under a train.

Jiri Stuchlik, 23, died in an apparent suicide at Finsbury Park Tube station on New Year's Day.

Detectives believe he killed himself after repeatedly stabbing his partner Jitka Nahodilova, also a Czech national, whose body was found at a house in Hampden Way, Southgate, the next morning. Miss Nahodilova, 27, a deputy manager for a European clothing firm, died from huge blood loss after being repeatedly knifed at the £400,000 property being rented by the couple.

Police said a knife was found nearby. Mr Stuchlik, also known as Jirka, has not yet been formally identified.

Police, who were not aware of any history of violence between the couple, say neighbours have reported hearing what seemed to be a fight at the property and the sound of breaking glass at about 4am on New Year's Day.

It is understood police are treating the deaths as murder and suicide and are not looking for anyone else in the case. Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 7321 7228.
