Fake Olympics T-shirts seized in Oxford Street

12 April 2012

Thousands of fake Olympics-branded clothes worth £100,000 have been seized in a crackdown on counterfeiters.

Westminster council trading standards and police raided an Oxford Street shop which was filled with counterfeit sportswear bearing the interlinked rings trademark of the Olympics.

The 6,500 items included T-shirts and football shirts apparently copying the logos of Nike, adidas and Puma. Officers believe more than 130 fake "London 2012" polo shirts were imported from Thailand.

The council refused to name the shop, which was raided on February 9 after customs officials intercepted two containers of suspect goods at Southampton docks.

Westminster councillor Brian Connell said the trading standards team would "continue to be vigilant for any fake goods coming into central London".
