Family scoops £26m on Euro-Lottery

Celebrating: The Sturt family
12 April 2012

Britain's newest multi-millionaires will share their good news today.

The four-strong family syndicate from Dorking, Surrey - named in reports as 76-year-old cabbie George Sturt and his children Colin, Gary and Teresa - won £26.1 million in Friday's EuroMillions draw.

It is Britain's fourth biggest lotto prize.

The family syndicate had one of just two winning tickets and shared the jackpot with a second ticket-holder in France.

Widower George told the Mirror he planned to keep on working despite landing the windfall.

He said: "I'll keep working because I enjoy it.

"I don't care about having a lot of money. I am just glad my children will be looked after."

His son Colin, 53 - who is set to pocket £6.5 million along with his siblings Teresa, 44, and Gary, 51 - said he was still in a state of shock.

He told The Sun: "This sort of thing happens to other people and people like us - it is just absolutely crazy.

"We put £4 into a syndicate each week, but you don't in your wildest dreams ever think you are going to hit it big like this."

They will be officially unveiled at a press conference in Surrey today, hosted by former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips.

The winning EuroMillions ticket had the numbers 11, 26, 29, 49, and 50 and the lucky star numbers 4 and 7.

Britain's biggest ever lotto win was the £91 million jackpot shared by a group of IT workers from Liverpool and a married couple from Newport, south Wales, in November last year.
