Ferrari fan 'killed two women'

A millionaire Ferrari fanatic and self-confessed show-off killed two sisters on their way to a wedding, a court heard today.

Andrew Marshall had only taken ownership of the red sports car six weeks before he lost control of the coupe and ran into the back of a car carrying June Gill and Beryl Fougler.

Ms Gill, 65, was killed instantly and her 70-year-old sister died three weeks later in hospital after the crash in Milton Keynes.

A jury at Aylesbury Crown Court heard that the sisters were travelling from Milton Keynes with their husbands Edward Gill and Arthur Fougler. They were on their way to their niece's wedding in Norfolk on Saturday 15 August last year.

After the crash, Marshall, 41, told police he enjoyed the attention the car brought him. "I bought the Ferrari to make my life more pleasurable. I enjoy the car and people looking at it. It is exciting."

The father-of-one added: "I have owned BMWs and super-charged Mercedes so I'm used to driving highpowered cars."

Amjad Malik, prosecuting, said that the Ferrari sped away so quickly from traffic lights that it span a full circle across the two-lane carriageway, striking the other car. Accident investigator Pc Anthony Reading told the court that Marshall had lost control of the coupe so badly that his "fate was in the lap of the gods".

Mr Malik added: "The way Marshall was driving created an obvious risk that he would cause damage to his car and others and also cause injuries and he did indeed cause the death of two ladies."

Marshall, of Old Park Farm, Milton Keynes, denies two counts of death by dangerous driving. He said: "I am not a lunatic driver. This is heart-breaking for me, but it wasn't deliberate."
