Fight to keep river boat service afloat

Get on board: Melissa Miller and Nathan O' Hanlan want to save the route between Putney and Blackfriars
12 April 2012

Commuters fear their river boat service will be axed at Christmas.

The Putney to Blackfriars route is closing because of rising costs, despite hundreds using it daily.

Melissa Miller, an investment consultant for Coutts bank, said: "It's a fantastic way to get to work. You always get a seat and there's no crush like on the Tube."

Tenders are being invited for the route, currently run by family firm Thames Executive Charters.

If the route closes, west Londoners will lose their only river bus service.
