Flying high on nightclub class

The Ministry of Sound wants to turn four redundant planes into flying nightclubs.

The British dance and record label company today offered to buy the jets from the collapsed airline Ansett on Australian ABC Radio.

Commercial brand director Richard Mergler said the planes would recreate the nightclub experience and fly to Australian and other overseas destinations.

"We're going to be doing Sydney to Melbourne to begin with where you fly late in the evening. There will be DJs on board, special DJ decks will be installed into where the business seats were," he said.

The company had originally hoped to start its own airline in Europe but said the collapse of Ansett provided an ideal opportunity to acquire planes and staff.
