Folk's Richard Thompson hosts Meltdown

12 April 2012

Folk-rock pioneer Richard Thompson will follow stars including David Bowie, Morrissey and Jarvis Cocker in curating the Southbank Centre's annual Meltdown festival.

Thompson, who grew up in north London, was a founder member of Fairport Convention before starting a solo career in 1972.

Rolling Stone magazine named him one of the top 20 guitarists of all time. Thompson, who said he was excited to be hosting Meltdown, will announce his programme shortly. The festival will run from 11 to 20 June.
