13 April 2012

Monaco, Imola, Silverstone... and Regent Street the glamor of Formula 1 is coming to one of London's busiest roads.

On July 6 the cars of the world's most glamourous sport will parade along Regent Street as part of the run-up to the British Grand Prix.

Cars taking part include the Ferrari, as driven by Michael Schumacher, and Jenson Button's BAR.

The event, which will take place between 6pm and 8pm, is the brainchild of Westminster City Council, Harvey Goldsmith CBE, the Crown Estate and the Regent Street Association.

Simon Milton, Leader of Westminster City Council, said: "Westminster is delighted to be hosting the F1 experience. It is one of a number of initiatives that we hope will continue to attract Londoners and visitors to the heart of one of the world’s greatest cities."

A number of rosed will have to be closed to traffic in addition to Regent Street, which will be closed to private vehicles (and taxis) from 10am to 1am and for buses from 3pm to 11pm.

It is also advised that visitors, in particular children, should wear ear plugs.

All proceeds from the event will go to the arts in Westminster.
