Four arrested after train attack

12 April 2012

Police have made four arrests after a man was attacked on a train, they said today.

The homeless man was left with multiple fractures to the face, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

He was attacked at about 2.45am on January 17 on a service between East Croydon and London Victoria.

Last Wednesday, detectives released CCTV images of four men wanted for questioning in relation to the attack.

Detective Constable John MacNaughton said today: "Within days of the appeal going public we were provided with information that led to the arrest of four men on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

"The men arrested included a 24-year-old from Beckenham Hill, a 24-year-old from Caledonian Road, a 25-year-old from Highbury and a 20-year-old from Islington."

A BTP spokesman said that three men were held on Friday and one today.

All four have been released on police bail until Thursday, February 4.

The 32-year-old victim was discovered by train staff, who called London Ambulance Service.

Paramedics took him to St Thomas Hospital in Lambeth, where he remained overnight with multiple facial fractures. He was discharged the next day.

Anyone with any information about the incident was asked to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B3 of 17/01/10 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
