Four arrested over caravan burning

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred after a caravan with a gypsy family painted on the side was burnt at a bonfire celebration.

The display at Firle, near Lewes, East Sussex, sparked outrage. The caravan carried a fake number-plate which read P1KEY, and on the side were images, including children, depicting members of the travelling community. A slogan on the vehicle, which was towed through the streets before being burnt on 25 October, read: "Do as you likey Driveways Ltd - guaranteed to rip you off."

The village was at the centre of a bitter dispute over travellers earlier this year.
