Pc Simon Harwood will go on trial next year for the manslaughter of Ian Tomlinson
12 April 2012

The policeman accused of killing newspaper seller Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protest in the City in 2009 will stand trial at the Old Bailey next year.

In a hearing lasting just a minute at City of Westminster magistrates' court today, Senior District Judge Howard Riddle remanded Pc Simon Harwood, 43, on unconditional bail to appear at the Central Criminal Court in October, when he will enter a plea.

The father of two from Carshalton is expected to plead not guilty to manslaughter and a trial date will be set for early in the new year.
