G20 victim's family may sue the Met over death

Ian Tomlinson: Family could sue over his death
12 April 2012

The family of Ian Tomlinson may sue the police over his death, it emerged today.

His widow Julia has lodged papers at the High Court but is waiting to see if criminal action will be taken against the Met officer who assaulted him before taking further action.

An inquest this month found Mr Tomlinson, 47, died after being struck by Pc Simon Harwood at
the G20 demonstrations two years ago.

Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer is now reviewing his decision last July not to prosecute the officer.
