Moto GP 2

PlayStation 2

The new, improved Moto GP is a bit special. For the slightly soft-of-brain, you can start off gently but excitedly with the Arcade mode, making sure you keep the Simulation switch turned off. This is a great push'n'go game that even a dufus such as myself can come in a respectable fifth first time round (that's out of 21 riders).
Once you've mastered the basics, you can try it with the Simulation on, when suddenly the bike is a far more feisty creature, and if you don't take the corners exactly right, you'll find your arse bumping merrily along the ground with your bike 20ft ahead of you. Effectively Gran Turismo 3 on two wheels (I mean this in a good way), Moto GP 2 looks wonderful, plays supremely well and grows with you. It has longevity written all over it, with ten tracks (double the original), a good variety of 500cc monsters to play with, and different weather conditions - including rain. A truly solid racer. Polaroid Pete

PlayStation 2

Looking for something totally different? Well, Polaroid Pete could be the answer. You play newspaper photographer Pete, sent out on assignments by the gruff editor. It's a bright, fun 2-D game full of Japanese oddity (right down to you having to photograph a rampaging Godzilla). I have no idea who this will appeal to, but it certainly makes a change from the usual stock of racing and fighting games. Innocent enough for the youngest kids, with idiot-proof controls (point and snap), the only thing that confuses me is the fact that Polaroid has got anything to do with it, not exactly being the camera of choice for any paparazzo I know. Pooh and Tigger's Hunny Safari

Game Boy Color

You know how you can sometimes pick up a child's toy and have a good few hours of fun? Well this isn't one of them. OK, I'm being a little mean here - I did last half an hour before I threw the lovely Pooh and Tigger across the room. The premise is that Winnie The Pooh needs more honey for his party, and it's up to Tigger to save the day!
You'll travel through over nine levels encountering icy terrain, falling boulders, eerie caves, annoying bees, and irritating bats. It looks cute, but it's a little too much like hard work. Now where's my Space Lego... (HM)
