George Michael's £3m home burgled

Philip Nettleton12 April 2012

Pop star George Michael's £3million Hampstead home has been burgled in what police believe may be the latest theft by a gang targeting high-profile victims in north London.

The thieves ransacked the house and then drove off in the 38-year-old singer's £80,000 Aston Martin DB7 sports car while he was in Los Angeles.

A gang has carried out at least five robberies in the Hampstead and St John's Wood area stealing more than £1 million of jewellery and watches.

In the latest theft they escaped with at least £100,000 worth of paintings, jewellery, gold and silver music discs, designer clothes and family heirlooms after evading the £40,000 security system. The pop star's car was recovered a few days later but police have yet to make any arrests. The gang is also believed to have caused £200,000 damage to the house in the theft last Saturday.
