Gig halted after gunfire

13 April 2012

A gig by US rapper Nas was halted after shots were fired in the venue.

The husband of pop star Kelis was performing at the Brixton Academy in south London when the incident happened at about 10pm yesterday.

Scotland Yard said no one had been found injured and the venue was evacuated.
Nas was in Brixton for the finale of his UK tour promoting yesterday's release of his double A-side single Just A Moment and No One Else In The Room.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to Brixton Academy following reports of shots being fired inside the venue and people running away.

She said early today: "We believe that two shots were fired towards the ceiling.
"Two bullets and two casings have been recovered from the scene.

"The performance was stopped immediately and the premises evacuated."

She added that police had not arrested anyone in connection with the incident and Operation Trident would be taking over the investigation.

London Ambulance Service was also called to the venue, police said.
Brixton Academy spokeswoman Louise Kovacs said the venue was evacuated following consultation with police.

She said there was "a high level of security" at every event at the Brixton Academy.

More than 100 security staff were working at last night's show and concert-goers passed through scanning and security checks at the entrance to the venue.
