Girl loses mother and two brothers in crash

A teenage girl lost her mother and two young brothers when a bus ploughed into a group of people at a seaside theme park on Easter Sunday, police said today.

Joanna Warren, 37, and her two sons, Jacob, five, and four-month-old Leyton were among five people killed outside the Fantasy Island leisure park in Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire.

Her husband, Anthony, 41, is in intensive care at Boston's Pilgrim Hospital with his 14-year-old daughter Jessica at his bedside, a Lincolnshire Police spokesman said.

The family, who live in Braunstone, Leicester, were on a trip to the popular seaside resort when tragedy struck.

Husband-and-wife Richard and Paula Rhodes, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, were also killed when the double decker bus apparently failed to stop at a pelican crossing.

Mr Rhodes, 32, and his 30-year-old wife were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mrs Warren and Jacob died following the collision on Sunday. Leyton died at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham yesterday.

Officers from Lincolnshire are investigating whether mechanical failure or driver error was to blame for the accident, which also involved a silver convertible BMW 318.

Police have interviewed the driver of the Volvo bus, a 50-year-old man from Louth, as well as a number of witnesses.

The bus, owned and run by Lincolnshire RoadCar Ltd, was on a regular service between Chapel St Leonards and Ingoldmells when the accident happened outside the pleasure park's car park at about 5pm.

A spokesman for the company, which is based in Lincoln, said: "It is a tragic event and we are all very distressed."
