GMTV's Fiona Phillips attacks 'out of touch' Daybreak

12 April 2012

Former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips today claimed ITV1's new breakfast show Daybreak had "lost touch with its audience".

She added that presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley were being let down by the show's format.

Daybreak has struggled to attract viewers since its launch in September. Ratings had declined to lows of 500,000 viewers, although that climbed to 800,000 last week. Phillips, 49, was a presenter on Daybreak's forerunner GMTV for over a decade before stepping down in 2008.

Speaking on Radio 2's breakfast show, she said: "I think it's lost touch with its audience, it doesn't know who its audience is. I love Christine and Adrian. They're not being given the tools." Bleakley has claimed the show is finding its feet.
