Godzilla versus the animal welfare lady

12 April 2012

An animal officer wrestled with a "Godzilla-like" monitor lizard after it escaped from its owner and invaded a condominium complex in Riverside, California.

Jenny Selter grabbed the 5ft-long beast's sharp, lashing tail and lassoed its neck.

A police officer grabbed the lizard's body and helped Ms Selter put it in a compartment of her truck she normally uses to carry large dogs.

A county animal services spokesman said: "People were freaking out: here's this Godzilla-like creature on the sidewalk."

Animal shelter staff believe the lizard is a pet that might have escaped from its owner.
