GPs vote for status change

GPs have voted in favour of a new contract which will drastically change the role of family doctors.

The changes may include making GPs health service employees rather than selfemployed and assigning patients to group practices rather than individual GPs.

However, Dr John Chisholm of the BMA warned that without enough funds, "general practice, which is the backbone of the NHS, will collapse."
