Happy camper beats property crash with prime pitch

Under canvas: the unnamed owner says he tries not to disturb residents of the house

The rainy summer has inspired one tent owner to set up camp under the portico of a multimillion pound property in one of London's smartest streets.

The man, believed to be homeless, has been sleeping in the alcove outside the front door of a townhouse in Onslow Gardens for about a week. Other residents of the street include billionaire financier George Soros.

The tent owner in his late forties, who refused to give his name, has dispensed with the need for pegs by wedging his canvas home between pillars. He claims to arrive late and leave early so as to spare the residents of the house leaping over his tent to get into their home.
