Harrods bans Becks' girl

Rebecca Loos: Public enemy No.1?

Her revelations about an alleged affair with David Beckham have put her on the front pages of newspapers around the world, made her a household name and earned her a small fortune.

But last night Rebecca Loos, the diplomat's daughter from Madrid, got her come-uppance. The fact that it was delivered by Mohamed Fayed, no stranger to controversy himself, will only make the snub more pointed.

Ms Loos, 26, had planned to attend a champagne reception at Harrods. But once Mr Fayed, who owns the store, heard she was planning to attend, he ordered her invitation to be withdrawn.

He has been friends with Beckham and his wife Victoria, who opened the Harrods January sale in 2002, for some years and did not want to seem disloyal. Mr Fayed phoned publicist Max Clifford, who had been due to arrive with Ms Loos at the fantasy garden party for the store's best customers, to make his feelings clear.

Mr Fayed said: "I told Max Clifford I couldn't have her here. David Beckham is a good friend and a good client, I told Max 'no'."

Ms Loos is thought to have made £1million selling her stories of text sex and nights of passion with Beckham in Madrid and is considering more television work.

Ms Loos said: "Obviously it is Mohamed's shop so he can do what he likes. I did use to work there briefly many years ago. I used to be welcome there but times have changed. I can understand him supporting the Beckhams, though in my way I feel I was supportive towards David for some time. I am disappointed but I am not too upset."

Mr Clifford said: "Mohamed is obviously very friendly with the Beckhams and they are good clients of Harrods." A Harrods spokesman said Ms Loos had been invited by Mr Clifford and Mr Fayed found it "offensive and inappropriate" she should be there.
