Headache pill may prevent cancer

A common headache pill could help prevent one of Britain's biggest cancer killers.

Ibuprofen could both help prevent colon cancer, and be an effective treatment for people who have the disease.

A study at Boston University School of Medicine has shown small daily doses could shrink tumours and lessen the risk of dying from the disease.

Colon cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK after lung cancer, affecting 30,000 Britons a year and killing more than 16,000. Studies have already shown that people who take drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen have a lower risk of getting colon cancer.
