'Heroic' traffic warden catches mugger

Citizen’s arrest: Ozgur Yigitoglu
12 April 2012

A parking attendant performed a citizen's arrest on a mugger who had assaulted a man at traffic lights.

Ozgur Yigitoglu, 23, from Hackney, was on duty on his bicycle in Palmers Green when he saw the attacker flee with the 50-year-old victim's wallet.

Mr Yigitoglu ran after the mugger, pinned him to the ground and called for assistance.

Mr Yigitoglu's employers, NSL Services, provide parking enforcement for Enfield council, whose assistant director for environment, Gary Barnes, said: "I want to thank Ozzy for his truly heroic actions. He deserves a medal."

The traffic warden said he felt it was his "duty" to help the man. "I felt I should do something to help the older man. My aim was to get the guy and save the money so I didn't even think about feeling scared."

A 25-year-old man from Greenwich was charged with robbery and remanded in custody.
