Hill to hand over the reins at SFI

12 April 2012

ONE of the best known names in the pubs industry, Tony Hill, is to retire from SFI - owner of the Slug & Lettuce, Bar Med and Litten Tree chains.

Currently executive chairman of the company formerly known as Surrey Free Inns, 65-year-old Hill today announced the appointment of a chief executive, splitting the role from that of chairman.

Managing director Andrew Latham, 38, will take on the top executive role in April and Hill will stand down as chairman after the AGM in autumn 2003. Hill said: 'It's time for younger hands.' Pre-tax profits in the half year to 15 December came in at £9.3 million compared with £7.6 million a year earlier on turnover of £73 million against £56 million.

The interim dividend jumps 10% to 0.91p. Christmas like-for-like sales were up by 5.3% on the previous year's.
