Hillary Clinton and Aung San Suu Kyi joined hands today and pledged to work together to bring democracy to Burma.

Wrapping up a historic three-day visit, the US secretary of state met the opposition leader at her lakeside home in Rangoon where Ms Suu Kyi spent much of two decades under house arrest. Mrs Clinton said: "You have been an inspiration ... standing for the people of your country."

The US is offering to improve ties with Burma - run by the military until last year - if it reforms. Ms Suu Kyi said: "If we move forward together I am confident there will be no turning back on the road to democracy."
