Holidaymakers at Gatwick airport are being forced to fly without their bags after a luggage belt failure.

Airlines are experiencing major delays at the bag drop, which is affecting hold luggage being delivered to the aircraft/

EasyJet said the issue means "some flights may depart without all luggage in the hold".

Dozens have taken to social media to vent their outrage and report arriving in various holiday destinations without their baggage.

One wrote: "And what are we meant to do with no luggage? No car seats? No baby milk? It’s ruined our holiday! Not good enough!"

Another said: "Staying clear from @Gatwick_Airport and @britishairways.

"Worst experience of my life!"

Another said: "Absolute shambles one of the busiest airports in the UK and the baggage belt has a fault surely you should have a backup plan?

"Left in Spain with no luggage after extremely stressful morning with our babies twins!"

Gatwick Airport confirmed the disruption and apologised for any inconvenience.

A spokesman said: "Due to a technical issue with our check-in baggage system, some passengers in North Terminal are experiencing longer than usual waits to check-in.

"Unfortunately this is also causing delays to some bags reaching departing aircraft.

"Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to passengers."
