It is the ideal place for relaxation. But that's not really Prince William's style.

On sun-kissed Rodrigues, a tiny Indian Ocean island 400 miles off Mauritius, he's had no time for lazing around.

When he wasn't scuba diving or snorkelling he was scooting around on a hired motorbike. He has also been having early nights and early mornings and generally keeping healthy. His nonstop-schedule has even curtailed the amount of time he has had for his university housemate and girlfriend Kate Middleton, who is among the party of seven friends accompanying him. Her presence nevertheless will do nothing to dampen speculation about the closeness of their friendship.

The 22-year-old Prince fell in love with Rodrigues when he visited during his gap year in 2000 and has returned for a sporty summer holiday. It boasts some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world and William is said to have become a 'pretty proficient' diver during his three-week stay.

He is living the 'simple life' in a £25-anight guesthouse.

'It's pretty basic but he seems to be loving it,' said a royal source.
