Is one there yet? Queen's excitement on Baltic touchdown

As a veteran of 129 different countries, the Queen might be forgiven for being a little travel weary but as she arrived in Lithuania last night for her first royal trip to the Baltic States she seemed barely able to contain her excitement.

Grinning broadly she could not resist peering through the window to get her first glimpse of the country's capital city Vilnius before she was greeted by the former Soviet republic's prime minister, Gediminas Kirkilas.

Her historic Eastern European expedition to the new EU members Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will take her on a whirlwind tour of the three countries in just four-and-a-half days. The Queen was wearing the same cream wool coat with asymmetric collar that she wore to the blessing of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall's wedding.

British Ambassador Colin Roberts said the tour was a "fairytale" for the Lithuanians, who were curious about the famous sovereign. "They're delighted and a little surprised she's coming here," he said.
