Knife attacker on bike stabs teenager five times in street

A teenager is in a serious condition in hospital today after he was stabbed repeatedly.

The 18-year-old victim was reportedly knifed five times in the face, neck and body at about 11am in Lewisham yesterday.

His assailant is believed to have escaped on a mountain bike.

The victim was said to be in a serious but stable condition after surgery.

Sharon Shuter, 44, who lives opposite the scene, said: "The police have said that it wasn't a random attack, but I don't think they were from around here.

"There was blood running down the street, it was in three separate places because he was running away. I have heard that the boy who stabbed him may have been bleeding too.

"Two paramedics were working on him, then he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. I think he was hit by a car as he tried to escape."

An elderly neighbour said a second bike, which may have been the victim's, was taken away by the police.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said it appeared that the 18-year-old "was approached by a black youth on a bicycle and an altercation occurred, during which the victim was injured".

There have been no arrests. Anyone with information should call police on 0300 123 1212 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
