Libertine loses liberty

A former guitarist with Indie band The Libertines was jailed for six months yesterday after ransacking the lead singer's flat in revenge for being dropped from the group.

Peter Doherty, who has a £200-a-day heroin and cocaine habit, pleaded guilty at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court, London, to burglary at Carl Barat's Mayfair flat.

The 24-year-old's lawyer asked for a community sentence so he could seek treatment for his addiction but judge Roger Davies said burglary had to be treated seriously.
