We asked some of the candidates for London Mayor to explain in 50 words why they should get your vote. Here are the answers we received:

Lindsey German

Firstly on June the 10th you should vote and make this referendum day on Blair - His War - His Lies. Vote for me and Respect to show you opposition to his illegal war, his continuing privatisation of our transport system, his disastrous policy of a two tier health service, and his lies over the introduction of tuition fees.

Ram Gidoomal

London doesn't need a politician to run it. It needs someone committed to ending the divide between rich and poor, yet with the competence to manage a major organisation efficiently. Of all the candidates, I offer proven business capability, high ethical standards and a reputation for really caring about London.

Simon Hughes

Vote Simon Hughes for a safer and more liveable London. Vote for guaranteed police in your neighbourhood, Safer stations, later running Tubes, more affordable housing and a pedestrianised Oxford Street.

Darren Johnson

My vision for London is a city of urban villages, each with quality local services, a strong voice for the local community and local jobs. A vote for me is a vote for protecting our environment, improving our transport system and reducing the gap between rich and poor. Vote Green on June 10th.

Frank Maloney

I am not a career politician I am a true Londoner and a businessman who is passionate about his city. As Mayor I will concentrate on crime, youth and transport and stop the political correctness that is restricting our freedoms. I want to listen to Londoners of all colour and religion and represent you all to the best of my ability.

Steve Norris

I will deliver a safer tube, running later at weekends, and cancel the congestion charge. I want a safer city for everyone, and will put tackling anti-social behaviour, street crime and disorder at the top of my agenda. London is a great city, but it could be so much better.
