Former Kingston Grammar School students train for cycle in Richmond Park

A GROUP of former London students are to cycle the length of the United Kingdom in aid of a former friend who died after suffering from diabetes.

The dozen former Kingston Grammer School students, from south west London, are to cycle from Land's End to John O' Groats in memory of Daniel Kenn.

The Old Kingstonians, who left the school in 2007, will be raising money for the Junior Diabetes Research Fund.

Kenn, a member of Kingston's National Championship winning 1st XI hockey team, was a keen athlete and friends say he would have relished participating in the challenge that his friends are embarking on.

At the same time Tudor Morris, who was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphona at the age of 13 but is now cancer-free, will lead three Kingstone Grammar School students, who have just completed their A levels at the school, from John O' Groats to Land's End.

The group will be cycling to raise money for Momentum, a charity based at Kingston Hospital, which provides support for children with cancer and their families.

Remarkably neither team are noted or experienced cyclists and many of the older group in fact haven't been near a bike for many years.

The two groups will be coordinating their efforts and hope to meet at the mid-point of their respective journeys, while also retaining their independence.

The school is fully supporting both groups and all money raised will be shared equally between the two charities.
