Yeboah, a 20-stone Western lowland gorilla, was today unveiled as London's Zoo's new male gorilla.

Keepers say the 12-year-old is already a hit with the zoo's three female gorillas Zaire, 35, Effie, 16, and Jookie, 11.

In fact, staff believe he may already have got two of them pregnant, and are carrying out tests to confirm this.

Over the next few months, Yeboah will transform from a blackback into a silverback gorilla as he learns to dominate his new group.

"Yeboah arrived in late November, and it's been an incredibly quick process to integrate him into the group," said Daniel Simmonds, a keeper at Gorilla Kingdom.

Yeboah, who came from La Boissière Du Dore zoo in France, replaces Bobby, who died in 2008.
