M&S unveil 'idiot proof' saucy Christmas pud

A festive dessert has been created with "idiot proof" brandy sauce inside.

Marks and Spencer said its "melting middle Christmas puddings" were ideal for time-strapped cooks.

Each individual pudding portion contains 14.8g of fat - of which 7.8g is saturated fat, and 52.3g of sugar.

According to the Food Standards Agency's online calorie calculator it would take more than one hour of jogging to burn off the 405 calories which each pudding contains.

The puddings come in 145g portions which take around one minute to microwave or 40 minutes to steam.

The caramel-coloured brandy sauce oozes out of the pudding's centre after it has been cooked. M&S puddings expert Lesley Anderson said the new dessert was a contemporary twist on the traditional Christmas pudding.

"People love brandy sauce but some find there is enough to do making the main course for Christmas dinner without having to worry about the dessert as well - this is the ideal solution," she said.

The pudding contains traditional ingredients such as dried fruit, peel, eggs and cherries.

They go on sale this week priced at £3.69 for a pack of two.
