Major work to hit District and Circle lines

The Circle line and a huge section of the District line are to close all this weekend to enable large-scale engineering work to take place.

London Underground has again ordered hour-by-hour monitoring of the work in an effort to ensure it finishes on time and does not overrun into Monday morning and ruin peak services on the two lines.

The weekend shutdown is one of 12 taking place this year for much-needed replacement of track and signals.

There will be no Circle line trains at all and the District will close between Earl's Court and Whitechapel. The work is being carried out by Metronet, the private-sector consortium.
