Man arrested over missing Milly

A 47-year-old man was today arrested in connection with the disappearance of schoolgirl Amanda Dowler, police said.

The man, from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, was held shortly before 2pm and was being questioned at a police station in Surrey.

Amanda, 13, also known as Milly, was last seen walking home from Walton-on-Thames railway station on March 21 this year.A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: "A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the inquiry."

The youngster disappeared on Thursday March 21 while walking home from school in Weybridge, Surrey.

She was last seen after calling her father, Robert, on a friend's mobile telephone from a cafe at Walton-on-Thames station.

A massive search was mounted, while her last-known movements were filmed for BBC TV's Crimewatch UK programme.

Detectives initially though she may have run away but have since become increasingly concerned that she may have been the victim of a chance abduction.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with Milly's disappearance on May 16 in Chertsey, about three miles from the teenager's home in Walton-on-Thames.

He was released the following the day without charge.

That arrest was followed by another on June 13 when a 52-year-old man from Surrey was detained and questioned by police.He, too, was released without charge.
