Man found beaten to death at university

A 30-year-old man has been found beaten to death in a university car park.

The victim, who has not been named, was found near accommodation at the University of East London in Longbridge Road, Barking.

Detectives today spent hours questioning dozens of students at the university over the attack early yesterday.

Five people have been arrested, including one woman. The victim, who was white, was alone when he was set upon, then kicked and beaten by a gang.

Police say they are keeping an open mind about the motive and are appealing for any witnesses to call on 020 8345 3734. A post-mortem was taking place today.
